The First Black Inaugural

Someone on AOL Black Voices posted a fantasy about the First Black Inaugural, supposing what would transpire if those who have passed on were guests at this prestigious and historic event. Of course Reverend Doctor King and his wife Coretta, along with EL-Hajj Malik Shabazz (Malcolm X) and Betty Shabazz. What about Frederick Douglass and Rosa Parks? How proud would individuals who fought the good fight be to know that the impossible is now conceivable and we have our first African American President Elect? I know I never envisioned anyone looking like Barack Hussein Obama ever residing in the White House in my lifetime and I am so glad I lived to see it. How I wish my parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins who have gone before me could be at that inaugural. To read the article in its entirety Click Here.

When asked what I am thankful for this year at Thanksgiving, President Obama will be at the top of the list! One of my adolescent clients asked me if I had a crush on Obama because he appears on my blog so much and the answer is yes! I know he only has eyes for Michelle and that's cool ;-) Please join me in wishing him and his family love and peace in these changing times.

Through some quirk of fate that I had not anticipated, I am in DC and will attend the Inaugural ceremonies--maybe.

It's been interesting to be in DC over the last several weeks. There are a lot of estatic folks (of all colors) who have more or less caught the fever. My sister attended an Obama wins party last weekend, and hosted another the weekend before. It's something to see.

Around here, folks were wishing each other a happy 4th of November. Is this now the American cersion of Guy Fawkes Day?

Hello there!

Thank you for visiting my blog!

I imagine that Obama will have a huge number of black presidents from Africa in attendance and the presidents from Europe who want to show that they are supporting the "black prez".

I know that every black celebrity who can get a ticket will want to be there JUST to be photographed on the scene!!

I am NOT one of the blacks who thought that there could not be a black president elected in our lifetime...I knew that there would be a black president...one of my cousins was thinking about running for president at one time. It was NEVER out of the question in our minds that a black could win the entire kit and kaboodle!!

I hope that as many blacks who can travel by car from neighboring states will flood the streets and show how much they are ready to make a difference in this country.

No more whining... we must start using constructive tools of engagement and ALTER destiny!

Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!
Lisa

What a wonderful post! I often think of the many who who died not seeing the day of the inauguration but envisioned and died fighting for it. Nat Turner, for instance. Or Michael Schwerner, James Cheney, and Andrew Goodman.

We are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses who are rejoicing even now in the corridors of eternity.

Have a Blessed Thanksgiving.
