This blog is named after a book by Jacqueline Jones Royster. While my goals for this blog are not quite as lofty as Ms. Royster's (promoting literacy and social change) I do intend to address ideas, philosophies, and policies that need to change. Since I consider myself a sociologist I will focus on anything social, which basically covers everything under the sun and then some. Topics will include my take on politics, music, sports, family issues, literature, to name a few.
I am a middle-aged woman who recently relocated to the Dallas area after spending the last sixteen years in Long Beach California. I am originally from Flint, Michigan. Although I have lived in the West and I am currently in the south, my belief system is strongly rooted in my midwestern upbringing.
I enjoy bowling and rollerskating whenever I get the chance. I also spend much of my time reading and listening to music.
Inauguration Day has finally arrived! I would like to give a shout out to the new first family and wish them all the best in the next 4 years. It has been a rough couple of years for Barack Obama. His background has been exposed, he was accused of not being a citizen of the United States, being a terrorist, and just plain scandalized. I am so proud of the fact that he and his wife Michelle were able to maintain their grace under a hail storm of fire. These folks have shown a class and style that is incomparable.
I have only one more thing to say about our new Commander-in-Chief. His name is Barack Hussein Obama, not Messiah, Jehovah, Jesus, Allah or The Holy Ghost! The mess this country is in was not made in 4 years and more than likely will not be resolved in one presidential term. Let us stand behind our President, give him the support he will need as he begins this difficult and challenging journey, and wish him Godspeed.
hey pjazzypar you are right on point yes we need to give him time and support to clean-up all the mess the others left behind but within Mr.President Obama vision it wont take him long I just feel it because everyone has bought into his plan well...almost everyone I like this blogger business it`s a good line of expressing ones self i`m on at uncle bobby (aka scorpionbbb50) check me out 2 ok much love and later. B.B.
I like your point: "His name is Barack Hussein Obama, not Messiah, Jehovah, Jesus, Allah or The Holy Ghost."
His situation is, however, like the biblical Queen Esther in that "Perhaps this historic ascension to today's royal dignity and position of power has occurred for just such a time as this!"
Also, like Esther, the President will be mistaken if thinking that safe, politically expedient policies, silence, or inactivity will provide him with a different result than the rest of us.
Ultimately, deliverance and relief will come about, even if it must arise from someone else.
Uncle Bobby, I am willing to give him all the time he needs. We gave his predecessor 8 years to screw everything up! I'll be over to your site.
Rev, I can always count on you to lend scripture to current events! You are right because sometimes you can be under fire for doing what is correct. All eyes are on him :-)
I was thinking about you on Tuesday and all my blog friends wondering if they got a chance to watch the events. I was in tears many times during the day and previous. I swear...Chicagoans seem to be walking with a little more bounce in their step...is that possible?
I really believe we need to take this inspiration and begin to apply the energy in practical ways. I don't know what that is...but I think we each need to think about our communities in a new manner.
I believe Obama isn't a mesaiah either...but I do give him credit for reflecting a desire and belief in a compassionate consciousness...in that he is special and he is a good example of his peers. I printed out hi inaugural speech and it is really inspiring.
I also loved that he made a wage freeze on white house staff on his first day at work. He also had contracts about ethics and money fr lobbyists to follow. Pretty impressive already!
I snuck out of DC so that I could watch the whole thing on TV in Cincy. Everyone else in my family went. Despite all of the noise and traffic, they enjoyed it very much.
