Thursday Thirteen # 12 - Thirteen Of My All Time Favorite Soundtracks

I had prepared another Thursday Thirteen, but I had to nix that idea because of the Academy Award voters. I have decided to prepare a list of thirteen of my all time favorite soundtrack albums. This list is in no particular order and it is strictly subjective and done on very short notice.

1. Claudine – Gladys Knight and the Pips

2. Superfly – Curtis Mayfield

3. Car Wash – Rose Royce, Pointer Sister on “You Got To Believe In Something”

4. Dead Presidents Volumes 1 & 2

5. Shaft

6. Sparkle

7. American Hot Wax

8. American Graffiti

9. Hair

10. Let's Do It Again

11. A Star Is Born

12. A Piece Of The Action

13. Life

Please share your favorites.

I only really know 'American Graffiti'. But, my mom had the record for 'A Star is Born' and my brother and I used to laugh about that shot of Barbra Streisand. We'd say, "Ooooh Mom! You like this???" Great list this week!

I have never heard of any of those. I do have a few of my favorites though. Maybe, I will do this list someday.

I have Shaft on vinyl somewhere! Oh, how I loved that! Even (or maybe especially) the cover art. I have a love/hate relationship with A Star Is Born. Some of the songs make my skin crawl, but her version of "Watch Closely Now" at the very end is just so great.

Big surprise, but some of your faves (Claudine, Dead Presidents, and American Graffiti) are mine as well.

Some of my other favorites include:

A Touch of Evil

Across the Universe (I listened to this for the first time on the way in to work this morning)

Purple Rain

Easy Rider

By the way, good job of getting in a TT so quickly on such short notice.

I only know some of those but omg the theme from Shaft is hotwired into my brain! I remember hearing it over and over on a juke box in the canteen of a place I used to work. I don't know why everyone chose to play it but I used to hear it six or seven times a day, six days a week for three months!

You have some great tunes here. I have most of them, but I finally found someone who likes Shaft too. I love that music. Have a great TT. :)

the fact that you have A Star Is Born listed means you are AWESOME! I loved that movie and the soundtrack!

Is it bad that I haven't heard any of them?

There's a bunch on there I don't know (and now I've got Car Wash running through my head. Help!), but the ones I recognize are amazing.

Except for Car Wash. Help!!!

I don't know any of those soundtracks.

Some of my favorites are "Empire Records" "The Labyrinth" and "Rocky Horror Picture Show."

I also like the soundtrack of the Buffy The Vampire Slayer's Episode "Once More with Feeling" (It was a musical) Even before it had come out on disc we had dubbed our on copy on CD fromt he movie.

Boy, dead presidents did have a great soundtrack. I forgot all about that - thanks for the reminder. I wonder if they have it at the library.....

Happy TT! :)

I have heard of a few of those, but have never actually listened to any of them. Isn't it fun how much variation there is between what different people like in music?

My TT this week is also music based.

Oh dear...I'm not familiar with any of those. How lame is that? *grin*

I have two TTs to share this week:

I like your taste in music. I think I would have made room for In the Heat of the Night. Quincy Jones' orchestral scores were hauntingly beautiful and at the same time provocative.

I love that you have some oldies too...I'm more of an oldie girl myself (being an oldie myself). Happy TT!

Okay you had 3 of my favs in your list....Hair, American Graffiti and Car Wash. Others would be Grease, Xanadu, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Jesus Christ Superstar, Forest Gump, Platoon, Good Morning Vietnam, and Godspell.
Awesome TT this week, hope you'll visit my historical retrospect of the 1930s.
