This blog is named after a book by Jacqueline Jones Royster. While my goals for this blog are not quite as lofty as Ms. Royster's (promoting literacy and social change) I do intend to address ideas, philosophies, and policies that need to change. Since I consider myself a sociologist I will focus on anything social, which basically covers everything under the sun and then some. Topics will include my take on politics, music, sports, family issues, literature, to name a few.
I am a middle-aged woman who recently relocated to the Dallas area after spending the last sixteen years in Long Beach California. I am originally from Flint, Michigan. Although I have lived in the West and I am currently in the south, my belief system is strongly rooted in my midwestern upbringing.
I enjoy bowling and rollerskating whenever I get the chance. I also spend much of my time reading and listening to music.
I am not a Christmas person, but I do like the music and films associated with the season. I have chosen two of my favorite old school Christmas songs. The Ojays "Christmas Just Ain't Christmas Without the One You Love" and the Emotions "What Do The Lonely Do At Christmas". No when you see the video for the latter song you may ask why Alicia Keys is in the video. I don't know why who ever uploaded the song dubbed it into an Alicia Keys video, but one thing for sure, this is the original song being performed by the Emotions. Enjoy the selections and I wish all who visit a Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Hanukkah, or just a very pleasant week ahead!
1. Anyone can participate; any music genre 2. Old School is defined as music created before 1999 3. No offensive words allowed, please use edited radio version 4. Post a video of your favorite Old School song to take us back down memory lane 5. Add your name to the meme list so that others can check you out 6. Have fun & don't forget to leave comments for other participants
Pjazzy, you and I and Sjp think alike. Again, I seriously considered both selections and artists. I ruled out the Emotions because I couldn't find the video and SjP was too late with the link! I love the Emotions and the O'Jays my homies from Ohio! I love all of their music. Happy OSF and Happy Holidays!
My mom use to play What Will The Lonely Do, over and over. She really loved that song. And now, it's also one my favorites. I love the blues even at Christmas.
The Emotions song is the one my aunts and uncles would play after all the kids (including myself) were supposed to be in bed...that's when the brown liquor and the cards would appear...
I, for one, will be happy to have the radio stations play anything else than Christmas carols. I'm not really a "Bah! Humbug!" type by nature, but I'm heading in that direction:-)
Still, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Happy Holidays!
I tried to find the Emotions video also and could not find one. A station here in Dallas plays that song all the time!
Great picks you got there!
I am learning so much about another world of Christmas Carols today, it is serious.
Thank you for the lesson. :) Happy OSF.
