Following in the footsteps of Regina King, Sanaa Latham and Nia Long, arguably two of the most attractive actresses in films will lend their voices to characters on “The Cleveland Show”. If you watch “The Family Guy” you will recognize Cleveland as one of Peter’s buddies. The show is merely a spinoff; which I do not recall happening in recent years, in the cartoon world. There might have been a spinoff or two involving “Archie” in the 70’s. I am sure Malcolm of Pop Culture Dish can shed some light on this topic. Sanaa Latham will portray Cleveland’s wife, Donna and Nia Long will voice Cleveland’s stepdaughter, Roberta. Anyhow, I like cartoons that cater to adults, so I will definitely give it a try. I have become a big fan of "Family Guy", so I will be checking out "The Cleveland Show". Entertainment Weekly did an excellent piece a few weeks ago about the lack of color on network TV. The article stated that Cleveland Brown will be the only minority character to star in a new broadcast series for the 2008-09 season.
As for recent cartoon spinoffs, the only one I can recall is Daria (a character who was introduced on Beavis and Butthead).
Hey Malcolm,
I couldn't stand B&B, but I love Daria. Does it still come on? Wow, the only minority is a cartoon character and the funny thing is, The guy who voices Cleveland is White. That reminds me of Alec Baldwin role-playing as Tracy's father :)
Wasn't Futurama a loose spinoff of The Simpsons, which in itself was a spinoff of The Tracey Ullman Show?
I know the Simpsons was a spinoff of Tracey Ullman, but her show was not a cartoon. I think Futurama is produced by the same company as the Simpsons.
You are right Pjazzy. Because Matt Groening created both Futurama and The Simpsons, there have been references on the latter. Also, one of the Futurama characters has made cameo appearances on The Simpsons. However, since these appearances took place after Futurama began and not before, it's not a spinoff.
One recent spinoff that I forgot about was "Pinky and the Brain" (which came from Animaniacs). After checking Wikipedia, I found that there are a few others; one of which is "Go Diego Go" (from Dora the Explorer).
This is going to be a great show, especially since Latham and Long are stepping on the scene. Who would have ever thought right? I can't wait for this to hit my screen. Those broads are two of my favorite actress' along with Femi Emiola. Since we're talking about shows, you guys should really check out "If Looks Could Kill". It's sponsored by Toyota and will have you hooked in a matter of seconds. If you enjoy watching Sanaa or Nia on the screen , then you will definitely enjoy Femi on this one.
The webisodes follow an aspiring fashion designer, Bianca turner (played by Femi Emiola, Wicked Wicked Games), who is a prime example of a woman who’s got it going on. I’m talking the dream job, the man who’s got all the ladies drooling, and the spice to keep it all together. Think James Bond meets Sanaa Latham in “Something New”, Bianca is the girl who isn’t afraid to run in her Louboutin Heels!

The last episode-The Sell Out- has been available since 7/21, but it’s not too late to catch up and tune in. I work with Toyota, so take my word for it. I’m sure that you’ll be reeled in, so don’t be surprised when you are. Also, don’t forget to hit me up with the scoop on your thoughts, or comments from others, about the webisodes.
Looking forward to the chit chat!

Kudos for both actresses for landing this opportunity. I don't watch much TV because I'm usually at work when all the good stuff comes on but I'll try to check this show out when I get the chance.
