Music Memoirs, Tuesday Tunes - Week 41

This week Musical Memoirs changed the format a bit by asking these questions:

What's the most you've ever paid for a CD? What CD was it? The most I can remember paying for a single CD was 17.99 in 1986. "Love Zone" (the name of the CD) had numerous hits, including "When the Going Get's Tough, the Tough Get Going", There'll Be Sad Songs to (Make You Cry)" and of course the title song.

Do you own any CDs that aren't domestic? Yes, maybe a few.

How do you feel about European discs and Japanese discs getting bonus tracks and special packaging when the US does not? I don't like it, but they (Europeans and Japanese) do pay handsomely for those bonuses. You ever get a load of the price of imports?

Are there any bands/artists you go out of your way to purchase any release for? Yep, Definitely. Sade, Tina Marie,
and Chaka Khan come to mind.

I have not heard Sade or Chaka Khan in years!

17.99 seems pretty expensive for 1986, but I suppose I paid a similar price for some cds back then!

Import prices kill me and I've got several Japanese imports in my collection for bonus tracks that you could find elsewhere years ago.

$17.99 was a nice little chunk of change to pay for a CD back in 1986. But I know that Billy is one of your boys so it was money well spent.

I just purchased some Chaka Kahn last week from Amazon. Despite the fact that non-physical albums are cheaper, they still seem somewhat overpriced to me. After all, I'm not paying for shipping, manufacturing, storage or shelf-space.

Shannon H.; Chaka actually still performs and has new material.

Natsthename; That was expensive, but any new technology cost. The packaging was ridiculous, CDs came in this big box.

The Mistress of the Dark; Imports can be very costly.

Malcolm; You remember the packaging for CDs at that time? You were paying for all that cardboard.

X.; I have only bought one non-physical album (Jill Scott) and I don't like them, it's something about liner notes and other stuff that come on CDs that I enjoy.

Ah, the dreaded CD longbox... yes I do remember that foolishness.

Do you know that some decades ago it was the English LPs that got the extra goodies?? I used to preorder English Beatles albums because of that! (That's how I ended up with two "Butcher" albums - one English, one US release!)

That sucks, how come us Yanks end up getting cheated out of stuff all the time???

You pay the price for the actual cd or album, it's all that packaging! Downloads be the wave of the future!

Funny. I used to say the same thing about vinyl when CDs came on the scene. Vinyl albums have larger liner notes, and artwork that's easier to see, after all.

Still, I get your point.
