Old School Fridays - Duets

I love duets and I am going with one of my favorite couples of all times, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell (well sort of). My favorite song by this duet is "California Soul". According to Marvin Gaye (in the biography "Divided Soul") by the time this song was recorded Tammi was too ill to sing, so Valerie Simpson performed the song. I actually hear Valerie, see if you can too.

I also decided to go with Rick James and Teena Marie and the lesser known "Once and Future Dream".

Happy OSF! I thought hard about Rick James & Teena Marie. They had some steamy duets that I truly enjoy. The other choice you made is probably the #1 duet of all times. It's nice to see your blog. I like the flow...

Thank you for visiting my OSF post today. I invite your blog readers to check out Billy Preston & Syreeta if they have time or inclinaton. These two had a great duet back in 1981 that I think y'all will enjoy!

I think it was you who told me that Valerie Simpson subbed for Tammi on some of the later "Marvin and Tammi" duets. I really listened closely this time and I could tell that it was Valerie. California Soul is perhaps my 2nd favorite duet by them (after Keep On Loving Me).

"Once and Future Dream" is a song that either I've never heard or if I did, it's been awhile. At any rate, it sounded awesome. I like it better than "Fire and Desire".

These are some great choices! Man you are SERIOUSLY goin back in the day with Marvin gaye and Tammy Terrell. That was some early marvin stuff, and some great memories.

And needles to say Mr. Punk Funk himself, along w/ Teena Marie, is a gas to listen to. The both of them have some serious pipes.

Marvyn Gaye and Tammy - what a great choice! I'd forgotten about them and this was a great pick!

After reading Malcolm's comment I am now aware that Valerie Simpson was sometimes "Tammi"! Malcolm is a font of pop culture/music knowledge!!!

I went with one of the lesser known Righteous Brothers songs!

Tammi and Marvin have to be the greatest R&B duet of all time. I, too, don't think Marvin ever got over Tammi's death. I hear Valeri.

I was in high school when Teena teamed up with Rick to produce some of the hottest duets ever.

Enjoy your weekend.

Villager, thanks for stopping by. I enjoyed your selection as well.

Malcolm, "Keep On Loving Me" is my second favorite believe or not. The Teena and Rick selection is on her "Naked To The World Album". This is a really good album with "Ooo La La La", "Work It", and "Crocodile Tears". Good stuff!

Keith, I take my old school seriously and I will always put you in the "Way Back Machine" and transport you to a simpler time and place.

Hey Candy, I am good. I am glad you enjoyed the selections. I will be over and check out "Gnostic World".

Cinmike, I am glad you enjoyed the duets. I enjoyed visiting you and listening as well.

Pop Art Diva, Thanks for stopping by. I look forward to Fridays because I never know what the ladies are going to come up with. When you mentioned The Righteous Brothers, I thought about Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes and the "Dirty Dancing" theme "I Had The Time of My Life".

Tweety30, No I am sorry that I don't know your friends. They are probably quite a bit younger than I ;-D

Mrs Grapevine, Thanks, the songs are legendary and so are the artist. At least we still got Teena. I go and see her whenever I get the chance. The last time was in the summer of 2006 and she did a tribute to Rick James that lasted 45 minutes. She did the duets (with her male backup) and she performed some of his like "Cold Blooded". If you ever get the chance to check her out, go for it.

Regina, thanks for checking me out. I love Marvin too!

Hagar's daughter, no I don't think Marvin ever did (get over Tammi's passing). Thanks for visiting, see you next week.

Johnh985, You are absolutely correct, Marvin was marvelous.
