Thursday Thirteen # 7 – Little Known Facts

I have been really busy this week and contemplated not doing a Thursday Thirteen post, but it is so much fun that I could not resist. Here is a list of thirteen trivia facts. There is no rhyme or reason to the list, but let me know if you knew about some of them.

1. Debra Winger was the voice of E.T.

2. The first toilet ever seen on television was on "Leave It To Beaver".

3. There are 293 ways to make change for a dollar.

4. The longest one-syllable word in the English language are "Screeched, Scratched, Scrounged, Scrunched, Splotched, Squinched, and Squelched."

5. Los Angeles's full name is "El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles de Porciuncula"-and can be abbreviated to 3.63% of its size: "L.A."

6. 60 Minutes is the only television show with no theme music.

7. All 50 states are listed across the top of the Lincoln Memorial on the back of the $5 bill.

8. Each king in a deck of playing cards represents a great king from history. Spades - King David; Clubs - Alexander the Great; Hearts - Charlemagne; and Diamonds - Julius Caesar.

9. It takes 3,000 cows to supply the NFL with enough leather for a year's supply of footballs.

10. According to Genesis 1:20-22, the chicken came before the egg.

I knew about 1, 2, 6, and 7. I never would have guessed that Mohammed is the most common name in the world. However, it did make sense when I thought about it.

Personally I think all Jell-o is nasty. Happy TT.

I wouldn't live in LA if I had to stick all that down every time I wrote my address.

I didn't know that about Debra Winger. Thanks for the fun.

huh. I thought I was the purveyor of all random information. Most of these I didn't know - and how cool to learn something new!

Happy TT!

Never knew any. Your #4 is not long enough. The longest word with one syllable is smiles. Why you may ask? Because there is a mile between the two s. (lol)

I've never heard of those Jello flavors! Of course, if they flopped, that would be why... They sound awful!

I didn't know about #2 -- eeiiw, that sounds bad ;)

Malcolm, Cookie couldn't believe that Mohammed was the most popular name, but I told her that she has to stop thinking of America as the center of the universe. We have to think globally now.

pussreboots, I am not particularly fond of Jello either.

sandy carlson, I think all Angelenos would beat it to Pasadena, Long Beach, or the Valley in a hurry if they had to write the name of the city out every time they were asked where they live.

hootin'anni, I saw something written on a 5 dollar bill, alas I wish I had know about this fact 20 years ago when I could still read fine print.

Nicholas, Chocolate does not sound too bad to me either.

sandee (comedy+), Every week I learn something new also. By the way I am still laughing about your TT.

shesawriter, We certainly do learn something new everyday, but it seems to come 100 fold on Thursdays.

Open grove claudia, glad you enjoyed the list.

Cherrio, I love your wit and disposition, it's infectious.

sj reidhead, Thanks for stopping by.

maria, thanks for stopping by.

Candy, chocolate Jello probably flopped because it was too much like chocolate pudding.

mom huebert, I don't know how they would think that celery would be a flavor that folks would warm up to.

deanna dahlsad, We see toilets all the time on television.

storyteller, thank you. Glad you stopped by.

blogger, I not fond of Jello either. I do like pudding though.

geek-betty, No I did not know about the rat's sweaty tail (LOL). I love trivia too. Thanks for visiting.

the rock chick,

I think only Malcolm and myself care about trivia. I always liked knowing about stuff that others find little value in. Thanks for visiting and celery flavored Jello would have been gross. I never bought a package of Jello in my life.

badpuppydog,

I was shocked by the cow and football thing, until I thought about how much beef eaten by this country alone on an annual basis. When you think about that you know that 300 cows is only the tip of the iceberg. Thanks for visiting.
