I guess I am eating crow or humble pie tonight. I counted out my favorite last night and said he had given away the opportunity to be the 7th Season American Idol. I criticized that he did not sing songs that showcased his exceptional talent. This guy knew what he was doing. Simon Cowell apologized to Cook before the winner was announced saying that his criticism the night before had been bordered on disrespectful and that David Cook didn't deserve that. Cowell went on to say that for the first time in the history of the show he didn't care who won.
The night rejoined the top twelve contestants and a lot of stars from the past and present. Seal, Graham Nash, Donna Summer, and George Michael to name a few. It was great to see the return of some of the contestants who left in prior weeks. They seemed refreshed and ready to go on the upcoming summer tour that incidentally will be in my neck of the woods on August 25th.
After 97 million votes (a record of over 23 million votes) the winner was announced with less drama and fanfare than previous years. Ryan Seacrest simply said the winner of this year's Idol contest is David Cook. I don't think either David expected that outcome. David Archuleta was gracious in his defeat and David Cook broke down and cried. Now I don't know if he was crying because he was happy to be our American Idol or because he is locked in contractually to Simon Cowell for who knows how long. I hope it was the former. Congratulation David Cook!

I am watching it right now, but found out the winner when I opened Yahoo and saw it. I was so frustrated!
I really thought David A. would win it. I thought David C. would do better not to win it, so he could do a Daughtry.
Oh, well. They both were great! I would buy either one's CDs.
I like them both too, but I was sure David A. would win and even declared him the winner after the show last night. David Cook was my favorite early on so I am happy for him. It might have been better for him if he had lost.
I was surprised Simon apologized. I mean, he is normally "bordering on rude" or whatever wording he used and you, I and a lot of people have said that their impression was that David Cook did not bring his A-game to the finals.
Cook has a star quality that some of the more recent idols, in my opinion, like Taylor Hicks and Jordin Sparks are lacking. I think he will do ok even if he's "idol's" for a year or so. Carrie Underwood did!
And MAN!...does she look good! Her stylists have done wonders with her since her Idol run, no?
David A was my favorite singer but I wanted Cook to be the idol DA needs some life experience and time
RC, Simon does more than "border on rude" most of the time. In fact he is quite possibly the rudest person I have ever seen. As Randy would put it "Cook is the BOMB" and he should remain the bomb for years to come. Much like Kelly, Carrie, and dare I say it Fantasia.
Like her or not she has had a successful recording career, a run as the star in an Oprah backed Broadway Show, and one of the most successful television movies in Lifetime history. I still say she was scary as hell last week.
Carrie looked and sounded great last night.
Marcia, I could have lived with David A. winning it all, but David C. was my favorite. Both will come out of this with record deals, keeping the deals will be the challenge. Many of the idols and runner-ups have lost their deals.
