Vintage Television - Thea

I was channel surfing and stopped on BET because a show from the early nineties was showing. Thea only aired for nineteen episodes, but it helped to launch the career of Brandy Norwood (Moesha). Stand-up comedienne Thea Vidale stars as Thea Turrell, a widowed mother of four who works in a Houston supermarket by day and runs a one-chair beauty salon on the corner of her porch in the evenings. Vidale was nominated for a People's Choice Award as Favorite Female in a New Series for her portrayal of the no-nonsense Thea. The series was cancelled shortly after only one season due to low ratings. Veteran actors Yvette Wilson, Jason Weaver, and Adam Jeffries round out the cast of the show. I really enjoyed the show when it first telecasted back in the day and I found that I still enjoy it. Thea airs on Saturday mornings at 9:00 am EST on BET.

I wish BET was available through my cable company because I'd like to see "Thea" again. The last time I saw it was when BET first reran it in the mid-90s while I lived in Flint. Given Brandy's success, I am surprised that neither "Thea" nor "Moesha" have been officially released on DVD.

BET must have acquired the rights to the Thea shortly after it's cancellation in 1994. NOGGIN telecasts Moesha several times a day. What's with your cable company not having BET. I usually don't fool with the station, in fact the only time I watch is to see Thea and the occasional In Living Color episode. BET airs a lot of exploitive b*llsh*t, but that's only my opinion.
