The Goo Goo Dolls

I was flipping through the channels early Sunday morning and happened to stop on a special celebrating musical accomplishments of the Goo Goo Dolls. Now I don't know if I am trying to broaden my horizons, but I was interested to know what hits they've had during their career. I have heard of the group before, no doubt, but I am not familiar with their music. Or so I thought. The group took to the stage and started to play the opening for a song entitled "Iris" and I said to myself, hey I know that song and I really like it.

After performing they returned to the interview where it was noted that they had been in the business well over twenty years. I became intrigued to know what other goodies they had recorded that I was possibly familiar with, but did not know that the Goo Goo Dolls were the performers. The beauty of websites like Amazon is that I can listen to samples of music to determine if it is worthwhile. I tell you what, the Goo Goo Dolls to are definitely worthwhile. I love the sound of lead singer John Rzeznik and his band mates, Robby Tarak (bass) and Mike Malinin (drums) are fine musicians whose commitment and artistry shine through.

I found that I had other songs by the band, including "Stay With Me", "Before It's Too Late", and "Feel The Silence". As a side note, Rzeznik was experiencing serious bouts of writers' block when he was approached to write "Iris" for the City of Angels soundtrack, and, according to Rzeznik, he was on the verge of quitting the band days before he wrote the song that would launch the band to worldwide fame.

Anyhow I placed my order for "Greatest Hits Volume 1" which includes some of their more notable hits.

Althought I had their breakthrough CD called "A Boy Named Goo", the only song I can recall on it is "Name". That's not to say that the CD was bad because the other songs might come to me if I were to hear them again. When I first heard "Name", I was amazed because it sounds just like The Replacements.

the rock chick, Yes the boys are pretty cool. I got hung up on their name and never really gave them a chance. I guess I better go back and check out Nine Inch Nails(LOL).

Malcolm, Now that you mentioned it they do sound like the Replacements.

I don't own any of those Dolls, but I am familiar with them. Kinda funny that they have a "greatest Hits" album, though.

x.dell, funny how? I don't understand. Anyone in entertainment over twenty years and still considered relevant should have at least recorded enough songs for a greatest hits CD.
